Uncover What Lies Behind Lead Generation In B2B Marketing That You Need To Know For Your Business Growth

Today, I’d like to talk about something that has been on my mind since I came across this article called “It’s time to fight the ‘lead gen lie’ in B2B marketing” by Jenny Sagstrom on The Drum.

If you’re running a business like me, you’ve probably heard the term lead generation before. But what exactly does it mean, and why should we care?

Let us dive in and unpack this together.

The Budget Reality for Companies in 2024

As we entered 2024, many businesses, including mine, were – and let’s be real – probably haven’t stopped, evaluating their finances with a fine-tooth comb.

The economic situation has been difficult, to say the least; we’re all looking for methods to make every dollar count. According to this article, many businesses are investing major portions of their budgets in lead-generating initiatives.

But here’s the real doozey: is it truly the best use of our resources? 🤔

Lead-Gen Is Considered a Lie? Why?

There is  an excellent argument made for why lead generation, as it’s now done, may not be the magic bullet that everyone thinks it is.

They claim that the lead-generation approach is naturally broken because it often prioritizes quantity over quality.

It is about capturing as many leads as possible, without the consideration for whether these leads are genuinely useful or likely to convert into loyal clients.

In my experience running Above All Admin, I’ve witnessed personally how chasing an infinite stream of leads can be a never-ending loop that drains resources without producing tangible results.

It’s like fishing with a net full of holes: you may capture something, but how much do you lose in the process?

The Drum’s Take on Lead-Gen: A Closer Look

According to a writer, the typical lead-generation methodology may mislead businesses into believing they are making progress when in reality they are simply spinning their wheels.

She points out that this technique frequently fails to establish lasting ties with potential clients. Instead, it provides a thin layer of involvement that rarely results in long-term business success.

Real Solutions to Break Free from the Lead-Gen Trap

So, what are the alternatives? How can we break free from the lead-gen lie and accomplish true, lasting growth for our businesses?

Here are two ways how:

1. Focus on Quality Over Quantity 👀

This implies focusing on prospects who are really interested in your products or services and are more likely to become paying clients. For example, we’ve begun by narrowing our target demographic and investing in tailored marketing methods that address their specific demands.

2. Build Genuine Relationships 👷🏽‍♀️

Another important tip is to focus on developing genuine relationships with your potential consumers.

This entails more than simply collecting their contact information; it also entails connecting with them in meaningful ways, offering value, and building those relationships over time.

We discovered that through the implementation of streamlined workflows and effective strategies can make this possible.

Personally for myself one of the strategies that I have decided to focus on is incorporating  Client Stewardship vs. attraction as part of my lead qualification process..

So what does all this mean?

I think it is critical for us to reconsider our strategy for lead generation in 2024 and beyond.

Above All Admin is dedicated to identifying strategies that are effective and provide actual value to our clients and their businesses.
